Collection of All the MTV Interviews from WonderCon 2013

A collection of all the MTV interviews of Lily Collins, Kevin Zegers, and Jamie Campbell Bower from WonderCon 2013. (Videos only available to the US *sorry!* -blame MTV.com)

'Mortal Instruments' Actress Lily Collins Didn't Want Clary To Be 'A Constant Victim'

"I actually saw a lot of similarities between Clary and I," Lily said. "She's a go-getter. She's feisty. She fights for what she believes in, and I really associate a lot of her qualities with mine, but I also wanted to bring this realness to her, like she was just the girl next door, because I didn't want her to be this caricature of a fan-favorite heroine in a book. I wanted her to be someone you could be friends with next door."
Not an easy task, considering Clary is actually a descendant of a long line of demon-destroying Nephilim known as Shadowhunters. (I don't know about you, but the only super-human ability my childhood neighbor had was flying across the Slip 'n Slide really fast.) So how did Lily accomplish this feat?

"[By] incorporating a bit more humor into some of the situations with [Clary] and the boys—just not making her a constant victim," she explained. "Because I think when you're going through so many whats and whys in the span of every five minutes, those reactions could become really similar, and it becomes more of this, 'Oh, poor me. I'm in this situation.' When she's really like, 'Another problem? Solved! Another problem? Let's go!' So it's that really tenacious attitude I tried to incorporate more."

'Mortal Instruments' Star Jamie Campbell Bower: The Next Gandalf?

"I will be playing a young Gandalf, indeed," Jamie joked of the "Lord of the Rings" character. "That's my next job. You can't tell, but I'm in the process of growing out a very extensive beard."
In all seriousness, though, Jamie confirmed that he is a fan of the genre and that perhaps his casting in all these magical projects isn't simply a coincidence.

"What I love about the whole notion of sci-fi and fantasy is that it's a comletely different world, but underneath everything, there's a sort of reality that grounds it," he explained. "And people love to be taken out of their daily lives. I don't want to use the word 'mundane,' but that sort of drudgery, sometimes. Sci-fi and fantasy offer that. It offers that of the person watching it and for me, which I love."

'Mortal Instruments' Stunt Training Was 'Brutal' According To Kevin Zegers

"I think I showed up about four weeks before we started, and it went through filming, so then on lunch break we would go and rehearse the fight sequences," he said of the rigorous preparation. "[Director] Harald [Zwart] wanted us to do our own stuff, which I think when you watch the movie you can tell. It's sort of great, and you can see that it's us, and it's violence and just as, like, a guy, I saw the new trailer and it looks awesome. It looks like a big action movie, also obviously, the love story and everything are going on and the fantasy stuff. The action stuff looks awesome."

But, embodying a physically superior Shadowhunter came with a price for the 28-year-old.
"Brutal," he said with a laugh of the regimen. "I'm like the old one of the group. The young twenties kids were very spry and bounced back. When we finished I was very tired."

Kevin Zegers Talks About Working with Godfrey Gao, and Alec's Sexuality

Page to Premiere and Fangirlish got a chance to interview Kevin Zegers at WonderCon (Mar. 30). Page to Premiere also talked to Jamie Campbell Bower while at WonderCon, check out all the interview videos here.
Q: So should I ask the Lily questions? We asked Lily what to ask you and she was saying that we should ask you what it was like to work with Godfrey Gao.
K: It was great. He came in for like two days. So, he’s a busy guy. So he’s great. Not what I
expected it to be. We were kinda just buddies. Probably not what fans would expect for our interaction.

He seems like the kind of guy that I grew up with. Not super formal, kinda just a dude, we just hung out and talked about guy stuff. It was pretty mellow. Like I said it was like two days of work, so we didn’t get to know each other obviously as well as the rest of us did. And like in the first movie he’s kinda introduced and it doesn’t really go into our story as much as future books and movies, if there are ones, will.
Q: The other question she told us to ask was; what did you guys do to get to know each other off set?
K: We trained. We trained really hard, which when you are next to someone grunting and sweating for a few weeks – great ice breaker. We just worked a lot. When you work with someone as long as we did, all the courtesy stuff goes away and we are who we are. I say it all the time, but people on this movie were genuinely nice people. We laughed a lot. We were shooting sometimes 14 hours a day, so we weren’t going out partying all the time. It was a lot of work, but Lily and Jamie, they are still really close friends of mine. It was one of those experiences where we were all on the same page. Just got through it together.
Q: With Cassie being on set, did she give you a lot of advice on how to play your character
K: You know…she didn’t! We emailed once when I got the job. But no, she…I don’t know why. I think, she was there when we were in pre-production, and we were all talking about each of our takes on the
characters and I think that she felt that I had a pretty good understanding of the character of Alec and where we want him to go. Sometimes it’s best to just…

Q: Leave it alone.
K: Yeah. I think if it was heading in a bad direction she would have said something. I always felt pretty grounded in who I think he is. It made it a little bit easier to – it’s not easy to be such a complicated character.

The 'City of Bones' cast at WonderCon 2013

Today (March 30), the City of Bones cast, the director (Harald Zwart) and Cassandra Clare all made an appearance at WonderCon 2013.

IGN tells us:
They screened the brand new trailer for the film before taking questions from the audience. Clare said that the film, which she hasn't seen in its entirety, is as close to the spirit of the book as possible without being 10 hours long. She recalled the great access she was given, from hours of conversations with the casting director to visits to the set and even being able to make a cameo in the movie.
Collins said they needed to make Clary accessible to the audience, someone who could be your friend amidst all these crazy situations. Bower said his character will be both vulnerable and snarky. All of the panelists said (surprise!) how much they enjoyed working on the film and with each other.
The shadowhunters at WonderCon 2013 got a first look at the theatrical trailer to The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Although most of us couldn't be there, we have picture from the ones who did make it!

Our first picture of Lily Collins in an interview, and look at that, she's dressed in black!

Cassandra Clare's Set Diary from The Mortal Instruments: Day 3

Teen has been releasing journal entries from Cassandra Clare's Set Diary. On day 1 on it was all about the set, on day 2 it mainly about Simon (Robert Sheehan). Now, on day 3, it's all about Isabelle (Jemima West).
Day Three: Wednesday
I’m in Video Village. Jemima, hair as yet undyed, comes over to show off her Marks.

I discover that all meals served on a movie set are “lunch.” Even if it’s two in the morning, it’s lunch. I eat lunch with Madame Dorothea. She is on her way to being a bit demony, so she has huge talons on her fingers. She is however a beautiful and classy lady. I feel guilty about her eventual fate.

There is not a lot funnier than watching a whole bunch of Silent Brothers who have their mouths stitched shut try to eat. They all end up consuming their “lunch” out of boxes with straws.
Later Robert [Kulzer] shows me the “greenhouse scene” on his iPad. I can’t hear the dialogue, but it looks beautiful. Robert says, “I am a producer, which means my heart is cold and dead, so if I find this romantic and affecting it must be great.” Fair enough.
Shooting goes really late. Hartley, who is the line producer, is caught sneaking hot chocolate to fans lurking outside the studio. Apparently Hartley is a veteran of many films and used to shooing people away, but the TMI fans are so adorable that so far he has given them food and they’ve even had bracelets made for the set visitors. Below is Kevin [Zegers] holding one (it says THE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, 2O12):
“Hartley has been compromised,” says Robert. “The fans are just too cute.”

Full unedited photo of Alec Lightwood (Kevin Zegers)

The exclusive Hollywood.com photo of Kevin Zegers as Alec Lightwood
What's Kevin Zegers — the handsome, Canadian-born actor who plays Alec Lightwood in the upcoming adaptation of Cassandra Clare's YA saga The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones — thinking in this exclusive photo? Only the Shadowhunters know.
But from the looks of things (and, they definitely have the look right, as Zegers is sporting the Shadowhunters tattooed markings), Alec Lightwood is having an intense moment at The Institute. Perhaps he had a pow-wow with his rough-around-the-edges sister Isabelle (Jemima West) about what to do with their unexpected guest Clary (the tale's heroine, played by Lily Collins) or maybe he's just caught the eye of fellow Shadowhunter Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower) or the warlock Magnus (Godfrey Gao).
No matter what — or who — it is that's left Alec with a burning gaze, we just know we want more. The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones opens in theaters on August 23.

Here's the version from #ShareMortalLove
