A 'MORTAL INSTRUMENTS' Panel at 2013 London Film and Comic Con

Cassandra Clare, Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, and Lena Headey will make an appearance at the 2013 London Film and Comic Con. This exclusive Mortal Instruments panel will take place on Saturday. The tickets are a first-come-first serve and they're free.

According to Showmasters, there will be a special announcement!

To celebrate the announcement of the release date and new trailer for MORTAL INSTRUMENTS, the 2013 London Film and Comic Con is proud to host none other than JAMIE CAMPBELL BOWER, CASSANDRA CLARE and of course, LENA HEADEY for an EXCLUSIVE MORTAL INSTRUMENTS PANEL taking place on Saturday.

Tickets will be free and will be given out on a first come first served basis on Saturday morning.
Who knows, there maybe some more exciting announcements related to this just around the corner...

Cassandra Clare's Updates on the 'Mortal Instruments' Party (Including her 'City of Bones' Jewelry)

Cassandra Clare is at Book Expo America! She's tweeting and tumblring about what's happening and what is going to happen.

This morning, she stated:

Scary looking Shadowhunters greet me as I get up to prepare to TMI PARTY DAY at Book Expo America. The party starts tonight — there’s going to be rune artists, drinks, food, movie props, shoutouts from the cast, a playlitst put together by Unviversal Republic who are doing the soundtrack, and five minutes of movie footage to share with the partygoers. I am excite, but wish the humidity was not causing my hair to look like Sideshow Bob’s.

 This necklace matches the one that Jace wears except Cassie has the good luck rune on her necklace while Jace has strength.

So I’m getting dressed for the #TMIParty tonight — much glitter is involved — and I thought I’d share my one piece of jewelry. *points up* All the Shadowhunters in the film got these rune necklaces — you can see Jamie wearing his, blurrily, in the below photo. Each of them had a rune specific to the character. Jamie’s is Strength. Valentine’s is Power. Hodge’s is Knowledge (Jared was super-serious about which rune he got!) and Luke’s is Fate.

Cassandra Clare Talks to The Mash about Favourite 'City of Bones' Movie and Book Scenes

The Mash interviews Cassandra Clare over the phone. Cassandra Clare explains that her favourite part of the book is having a layer magical hidden under the normal and ordinary New York life. However, her favourite part of the movie would be Magnus's party -where she is a cat-like demon.

When writing “City of Bones,” which chapter had you most captivated?It was the idea of bringing this sort of magical New York to life. The idea that, here’s this city and we all know it and we walk the streets every day and we see the same stores and the same taxis and the same people, and it’s all so normal. But then, underneath it, there’s this layer of magic. … You just scrape away at it a little bit and you see it. And that’s something that I love.
Who was the first character you developed in the story?It was Clary. I mean, it was always the idea of writing this journey of a hero, a coming of age story about a girl. There’s so many (stories) about boys. I love “Harry Potter” and “Percy Jackson,” but I really wanted to read one about a girl who came of age and answers the same questions about who am I and how do I become an adult, how do I become a good person and how do I become a woman?

Cassandra Clare Talks With Bookish About Movie Adaptation

Bookish interviews Cassandra Clare. They talk about The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones adaptation and the cast.

Bookish: "The Mortal Instruments" has several more mature jokes and darker themes--a departure from a lot of YA, which keeps things fairly clean. How does that more mature sensibility translate to the movie?

Cassandra Clare: It's interesting, because you never know how something is going to be digitally realized until the director puts it on film. [The movie's] got a very dark sensibility--gritty urban fantasy, which I really like.

Bookish: Are there any scenes in particular you feel express that?

SciFiNow interviews Cassandra Clare, they talk about how the City of Bones movie is very simular to the books. In this interview Cassie tells us she was very involved with the casting, set design, costumes, etc. Lastly, Cassie got to meet some Silent Brothers while on set

Do you think the film is true to the book?I feel like it stays pretty true to the spirit of the books. There are some things that have to be compressed and altered because otherwise it would be a 10 hour movie, which I would watch but no one else would. From what I’ve seen in terms of the casting, the costumes and the sets, it looks like they’re trying to stick as close to what was described in the book as possible.
What haven’t you seen yet that you are looking forward to?I really want to see what the demons look like, I haven’t done yet because that’s mostly special effects, but I also want to see Magnus’ party!
How involved were you?I was talking to one of the producers and I asked for the casting director’s phone number and he was like ‘Sure!’ and I thought ‘Gad, didn’t nobody give you the memo you’re not supposed to give me that? Fine, alright, I’ll take it!’ I called her and we talked for hours, we would talk every day for months and I had access to the servers and watched everyone’s auditions and we all got a vote on the casting. [Director] Harold [Zwart] ran by the set designs and costume, the more they consulted me the more confident I felt about the movie.
Do we meet the Silent Brothers in the film?We do get to see the Silent Brothers and it was really fun to be on set with them because they were completely covered in prosthetic make-up. They have their eyes and lips sewn shut, so there’s all these really tall guys on set with all the prosthetics on their faces and then we go to lunch and they can’t eat, so they had these tiny juice boxes in the corner of their mouths, so there’s this long line of terrifying looking dudes in robes all sucking little monster juice boxes. That was awesome (laughs).

Cassandra Clare and Harald Zwart Talk Movie Adaptation at the LA Times Festival of Books

Cassandra Clare and Harald Zwart both attended the Los Angeles Times: Festival of Book this past weekend. They talk about the adaptation of City of Bone. (For a quick tweet run-down click here)

“It’s a bit of an exercise in letting go,” said Claire, of being an author and selling the movie rights. She had no expectations of being involved, and only found out about Lilly Collins being cast as Clary from Collider.com, like everyone else – but once Cassie signaled her interest in being involved, and once Harald came on board to direct, suddenly the doors were wide open and Cassie was weighing in on everything from casting to prop design. As to why the Hollywood types were willing to let her be so involved, Clare recalled one producer telling her: “Cassie, I never want you to say Harold and Robbie ruined my book. I want you to say, Harold, Robert, and I ruined my movie.”

'The Bane Chronicles' Snippets Revealed at the #BaneChroniclesChat

Sarah, Cassie, Maureen all got together with us to chat about The Bane Chronicles online. Here's a snippet from Run Away Queen at the chat:

Magnus was taking an unfamiliar route, one that took him through quite a rough patch of Paris. The road here was not as smooth. It was brutally hot inside of his cabriolet as it bumped its way along. Magnus had animated one of his magnificent Chinese fans, and it flapped ineffectively at him, barely stirring the breeze. It was, if he was completely honest with himself (and he did not want to be), a bit too hot for this new striped blue and rose colored coat, made of taffeta and satin, and the silk faille waistcoat embroidered with a scene of birds and cherubs. The wing collar, and the wig, and the silk breaches, the wonderful new gloves in the most delicate lemon yellow . . . it was all a bit warm.
Still. If one could look this fabulous, one had an obligation to. One should wear everything, or one should wear nothing at all. 

Cassandra Clare Talks 'Movie Adaptation for City of Bones' with CraveOnline

CraveOnline: When Hollywood started buying teen literary properties, did you bide your time and lord over this series while entertaining suitors?
Cassandra Clare: I didn’t. I was actually pretty early on the scene. I sold my books before Twilightcame out and so when we put the books out for movie studios and what not to buy the rights, YA was a pretty unknown phenomenon. People weren’t really sure what to do with it. It got bought by Unique Features and Constantin. They just really loved the story and they were on the same page with me, so I didn’t lord it over them. I didn’t wait and entertain suitors because there really wasn’t that kind of feeding frenzy back then. Now it is which is really interesting to me, but no, they’ve had the property for five years.

So did they shop it around and take it to different studios before Screen Gems?They did but Robert Kulzer, who is the producer at Constantin I’ve worked with the most, has a long term relationship with Screen Gems and Sony. They’ve done the Underworld movies together and I think he felt like they really had a handle on urban fantasy, so I think they were his first pick. Fortunately they got on board.

Do you need the movies to be strictly faithful to your books, or are you open to some interpretation?I’m open to some interpretation because I think one of the interesting things you can do with movies is, with the books you have the viewpoint of one character, Clary. So you can’t see anything as the reader that she doesn’t see. You can’t hear anything she doesn’t hear, you don’t know things she doesn’t know, but in a movie you can open out the world and you can see scenes that she wasn’t present for, and you can hear things that she doesn’t hear and know things she doesn’t know, and I think that creates some interesting experiments.

We know from the trailer they have the nightclub scene, right?Oh yeah, they definitely have the nightclub scene. I’m excited about that.

What was it like to see key scenes like that come to life?Oh, it’s very surreal because you’ve only ever imagined it and then suddenly there it is, coming to life on screen and you’re like, “Wow, somebody crawled inside my head and pulled out all this stuff and put it up on this big screen for everybody to see. It’s really incredible.

Were there certain scenes that they had to have in the movie?Yeah, there were certain scenes that I really, really wanted them to keep in the movie. The scene where Clary and Jace first talk, the marine house scene which is the romantic scene, and Magnus Bane’s party which is my favorite scene in the book. I really wanted to make sure they got that.

Are all of those scenes in the final cut?As far as I know, yes.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First thing’s first: How did you come up with the idea for The Bane Chronicles?
MAUREEN JOHNSON: We always have jokes about each other’s books, and I have my designs on several of Cassie’s characters. It started over a long series of jokes like about what we would do.
SARAH REES BRENNAN: I came in a little later. Maureen and Cassie were chatting about several different adventures that characters could have had. Then we were all in France together when we started telling Magnus stories to each other.
CASSANDRA CLARE: We’d all rented this house [in France], and it had one really big fancy room that we couldn’t possibly use. We were sort of gingerly sitting in there, and then we started making jokes about Magnus and what he would think of the room. Maureen had one about Magnus during the French Revolution. Sarah had her theories about why Magnus was really banned from Peru, and it sort of expanded. I said, “It’s really a shame that we couldn’t write these as a series of ongoing stories, because it’s not really a novel format. It’s more of a series of interconnected short stories.” That was when we first started talking about it seriously.Why did you decide on 10 installments?
CLARE: We had the realization that the best home for a project like this was probably the Internet because it allows for extremely non-traditional publishing formats. Then we started to buckle down and talk about what the stories would be and how they would be written. Since there’s three of us and we’re writing each story — Maureen’s writing half, Sarah’s writing half, I’m writing half along — it seemed fair to split them five and five.

Cassandra Clare talks to Showbiz Junkies about the possibility of more Mortal Instruments movies:

They said that if they do the next ones they’re going to shoot them back-to-back, which I think is a really exciting idea because Ashes and Glass happen bang, bang on the heels of each other. This is a really fast-paced story and it only takes place in a couple of weeks. I think that it would be great for them to do that.

Thus, if City of Bones does well at the box-office, City of Ashes, City of Glass, etc. will be made into a movie!
