Collider released their interview video with Jamie Campbell Bower (which you can watch here) just a couple of days ago. As a follow up, they interviewed Cassie too!
Collider: When you started receiving interest about turning your book into a film, were you immediately excited about it, or were you hesitant about the idea? CASSANDRA CLARE: I was a little hesitant. I was excited about the idea, but I also was a little freaked out. I grew up in L.A. and I worked for The Hollywood Reporter. I knew enough about the business to know that the usual role of the author on a movie is to get out of the way and not say anything. So I thought, “How do I feel about turning this whole project over to people and letting them do what they want with it, not even knowing about it?” And then, Unique Features approached me – and that’s Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne, and they did The Lord of the Rings, which are my favorite movies in the world – and I thought, “Well, if I’m going to sell this to somebody, it should be the people who made my favorite movies.”
With so many young adult books being turned into movies, what would you say to people to get them to understand that this is a very different type of story with its own mythology?

PageToPremiers interview with Jamie Campbell Bower "Difference Between Himself and Jace":
Lily Collins's interview "Mortal Instruments vs. Twilight" along with some Jamie Campbell Bower (interview starts at 0:18)
It's impossible to compare something to what was first known as the first franchise to really hit big and that's Twilight. You know, it was it's own entity itself and it's ok to hope to have such a big fanbase like that but, I think when it comes to comparing and contrasting, it's so different. I mean, it's the world where there's angels and demons and it's a totally different universe than any other film that I've seen.
“They have opinions for everything and I love them for it,” Clare said. “I love that they’re so excited.
I was flooded with emails that were either, ‘I want to be in the movie’ or ‘So and so should be in the movie.’”
The first interview with Kevin Zegers has surfaced! (Thank you PageToPremier)
Interview from iamROGUE.com with Cassie, Jamie, and Kevin:
Interview with Jamie Campbell Bower from Collider.net
Collider: How did you come to this project? Did you know anything about the book series, or did you just read the script and respond to it?
JAMIE CAMPBELL BOWER: I was in Los Angeles for pilot season and the script had been in development for awhile. They sent me through just the sides, actually, for an audition. I responded really well to the sides, and I really, really liked it. It was a real last-minute thing. I was due to leave the day after, and I did leave the day after. And then, I got a call-back for a screen test here, so upon getting the call-back for the test, I read the book. I read book 1 and 2, actually. I read book 1 quite fully, and then just went through book 2. And then, I did the test and got the role. That’s how I came to be involved in the madness.
Interview from Movie Fanatic with Cassandra Clare, Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Kevin Zegers.
"It’s really intriguing and it’s really frightening too. There’s nothing like a movie that focuses this big lens onto your work that hasn’t been there before," Clare said.
She admitted her fans had their opinions about who should play who, but she wouldn’t have it any other way as Mortal Instruments fans are as passionate as they come. “They have opinions for everything and I love them for it,” Clare said. “I love that they’re so excited. I was flooded with emails that were either, ‘I want to be in the movie’ or ‘So and so should be in the movie.’”
Meanwhile, Collins lets us in on her thoughts on the most memorable moment for her as a part of this rapidly becoming-iconic series. She immediately credits the filmmakers for how she felt like she walked onto the pages of the book when she arrived on the set. "I love how the art department made all the sets feel true to the book,” Collins said.
She also appreciated the bonding with her castmates and filmmakers. “All of us really became one in making this movie.”
After her work in Mirror Mirror and now her starring role in this film, teased in the Mortal Instruments: City of Bones trailer, it is easy to see the passion the actress has for the genre. “I’ve always loved fantasy films. I love how they take me away to somewhere else. It’s not just fantasy that’s the big appeal with these movies -- it’s that they have heart.”
We also caught up with star Kevin Zegers, who portrays Alec Lightwood, as he explores what it was about this Mortal Instruments world that most compelled him.
"The biggest appeal was the character. I love this guy for whatever reason,” Zegers said. As soon as "action" was called, he immediately knew the book's secret to success. “Once we started shooting the movie, the world is great and it’s easy to see why the fans are crazy about it.”
Jamie Campbell Bower, who is fan favorite Jace Wayland, was just a little nervous about tackling a project that is so enormous in the world of popular culture. “I was terrified. There’s always a responsibility, even if it isn’t an adaptation to a popular book,” Bower said. “It’s a scary prospect, big time.”
Interview from i09 'Will the movie keep the gay hero?'
We asked Zegers if his character's sexuality is addressed in the first film, and he responded:
You know, it's not something that's really addressed totally. There's kind of the subtext of people assuming that [Alec] is. But it's not something that we really focused on in the first movie, just because theres so many traits that he has. It wasn't a focus, really.
But he says that they still "played around" with the idea that Alec has feelings for Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower), and that there's a hint of a love triangle between Alec, Jace and Clary (Lily Collins). "It's definitely in there," says Zegers. "We didn't hit anything straight on the nose. It doesn't have to be. But there's a lot of subtle things that go on between the three of us, that the audience can make up their own mind about."
As for whether we'll get to see Alec get a love interest of his own if there are sequels, Zegers says: "Of course. It's a huge part of the progression of the character. So I hope so. It's what the fans seem to love about the character, is his love story." So if they actually make more movies, he definitely hopes they explore that aspect.
In celebration of Cassie and Sarah finishing an installment of The Bane Chronicles, Sarah and Cassie gave us a snippet! (Proceed with Caution: There is a Clockwork Princess spoiler)
James had not seemed to want to be taken from the cold depths of the water: had fought Magnus as he dragged him out, then laid his pale cheek against the dank earth of the riverbank, and hid his face in his arms.
They screened the brand new trailer for the film before taking questions from the audience. Clare said that the film, which she hasn't seen in its entirety, is as close to the spirit of the book as possible without being 10 hours long. She recalled the great access she was given, from hours of conversations with the casting director to visits to the set and even being able to make a cameo in the movie.
Collins said they needed to make Clary accessible to the audience, someone who could be your friend amidst all these crazy situations. Bower said his character will be both vulnerable and snarky. All of the panelists said (surprise!) how much they enjoyed working on the film and with each other.
The shadowhunters at WonderCon 2013 got a first look at the theatrical trailer to The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Although most of us couldn't be there, we have picture from the ones who did make it!

Teen has been so nice by sharing Cassie's Set Diary from The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones. Now, we are on Day 5 featuring Cassie as a Demon Cat.
Day Five: Friday
Because I am actually in a scene today, I have to show up early for costume and makeup and hair. I pass Robbie on the way to set — most parts of sets are unglamorous, back alleys and loading docks and that sort of thing.
I get a trailer of my own(!), bonus of which means SIDEBURNS GUY has to bring me tea. We discuss his sudden fame.

Check out the whole list of Cassandra Clare's set diary over at Teen.com. On day 4 we get some Magnus (Godfrey Gao) and some more Izzy (Jemima West)!
Day Four: Thursday Today is a really late start day because shooting went late the night before, and there’s a mandated 12-hour turnaround for cast and crew so everyone can sleep. It’s also the day we have Grace, who is our girl from the Make-a-Wish foundation, on set. It was her wish to be on set for the City of Bones movie. I’ve actually corresponded with Grace before and sent her a bunch of iratze charms, which she still has. I’m so touched she kept them so we have a little moment, hugging and dancing around the costume room. Grace sobers up when she sees some of the Magnus’ party costumes, which are ever so slightly on the naked side. Fun, though. Brocade jackets! Crazy boots! Backless dresses! Sparkles everywhere! Grace winds up with a nicely tasteful look. The shooting is on location that night in a subway tunnel. The cast has their chairs down on the platform. It’s fairly cold, so there are blankets for everyone. Kevin [Zegers] takes a picture of me with Jemima — she’s almost completely wrapped in a blankie.
Grace is doing her extra work, and she’s adorable. I’m hanging out with her mom when an extremely tall hot dude shows up on set. It’s Godfrey, who has come by to say hi, though he’s not shooting that day. So yes, I get to be there when he meets Kevin. They hadn’t run into each other before. I will keep the magical words they spoke secret, but it may have included the greeting “Hey, dude.” Me with Godfrey:
Rafy, the photographer, comes over to see if I want to be an extra in the scene but Harald says, “No, she’s going to be at Magnus’ party.” Me: “I cannot be at Magnus’ party. I am not glamorous. Also I will get nervous and pass out.” Harald: “YOU WILL BE AT MAGNUS’ PARTY.”
I always try to sign everyone’s books at a signing. The only few times I haven’t managed it have been when the bookstore wound up closing and tossing me out. But the whole idea of a book signing is, you know, you get your books signed. :)
By me, yes. By Lily, probably not — she is around for the Q and A part of the signings and some photos, but she won’t be signing book.
About WonderCon:
Some of The Mortal Instruments : City of Bones cast will be at WonderCon on Saturday, March, 30 at 2:30 pm PDT
Lily Collins, Kevin Zegers, and Jamie Campbell Bower will be there along with the director, Harald Zwart and Cassandra Clare
There will be a new City of Bones trailer released at WonderCon
WonderCon is set at the Anaheim Convention Center, California. For more info visit ComicCon/WonderCon.org.
About City of Bones posters:
I am pretty sure the new poster is just for movie theaters. Usually when they start selling movie posters it is through bookstores, comic stores, Hot Topics, etc. and it’s closer to the film’s release.
Reasons why some people have received Clockwork Princess early:
Because embargoes are always broken. People got the last Harry Potter book early. Despite the fact that bookstores have strict instructions not to sell the book, there are always employees who forget/don’t care etc. The fault is not with the people who bought the book, keep that in mind. And, if you really don’t want to be spoiled:
1) Avoid the tags
2) Use Savior or something else like it to blacklist topics like Clockwork Princess and Will Herondale
3) Consider staying off tumblr entirely.
And when you do get the book, don’t read the family tree first. You’ll be sorry if you do!
It would be nice if you could trust other people to protect you from spoilers but you CAN’T. You have to protect yourself.

The first installment of The Bane Chronicles is written by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan, and -as the title suggests- they will cover What Really Happened in Peru. (Check out this page for more information about What Really Happened in Peru)
Today (Feb. 5th) we have the title and the placeholder art for another short story of The Bane Chronicles, and this time, it will be written by Cassandra Clare and Maureen Johnson.
What wondrous adventure do you think Magnus will have in No Immortal Can Keep a Secret?
NY Daily News talks about all the YA books-to-movie adaptations coming out this year, and in their list, they have included The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones.
Long before Meyer’s books came out, life-long fantasy fan Cassandra Clare decided to write her “Mortal Instruments” series in order to create a strong female protagonist that she found lacking in the genre. Now, she sees a similar phenomenon happening on the big screen. “When you talk about the ‘Twilight Effect,” says Clare, “it was clear that all sorts of people would turn out to see what was basically just a really great and interesting adventure movie that happens to be about a girl.” It isn’t only witches casting a spell: “The Hunger Games,” based on the first book of Suzanne Collins’ dystopian trilogy, earned $408 million domestically.
It may not have been New York, but visiting the Toronto glass factory set of “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones,” ended up being “like walking around inside my head.” The library set, in which a key battle takes place, was filled with painstakingly hand-painted books. “Then I got to watch them take the place apart,” she says laughing. “Most and most of the actors did their own stunts,” she says. “So it was really frightening to watch them climb up really high and just throw themselves off these balconies. “And I ‘d think please don’t die, we have so much left to film."
