Catch up on the Latest News About Cassandra Clare's Next Next Series: THE LAST HOURS

A few days back, Cassandra Clare had revealed the mysterious THL is short for The Last Hours. The title is inspired by Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.
You have been in every line I have ever read, since I first came here, the rough common boy whose poor heart you wounded even then. You have been in every prospect I have ever seen since — on the river, on the sails of the ships, on the marshes, in the clouds, in the light, in the darkness, in the wind, in the woods, in the sea, in the streets. You have been the embodiment of every graceful fancy that my mind has ever become acquainted with. The stones of which the strongest London buildings are made, are not more real, or more impossible to be displaced by your hands, than your presence and influence have been to me, there and everywhere, and will be. Estella, to the last hours of my life, you cannot choose but remain part of my character, part of the little good in me, part of the evil.
The Last Hours talk about the next generation after Will and Tessa (i.e. their children)
The Last Hours is a new Shadowhunters series set in 1903. It deals with Will and Tessa’s children, James and Lucie Herondale, as well as Cordelia Carstairs, Charlotte and Henry’s children, Tatiana Blackthorn’s children, the Lightwood kids, and many more. 1903 is right around the time the Victorian era tips over into the Edwardian era — beautiful clothes, fabulous history and so much more that I’m excited to write about!
There will be 3 books in this series: Chain of Thorns, Chain of Gold, and Chain of Iron. These titles are also inspired by Great Expectations:
Imagine one selected day struck out of it, and think how different its course would have been. Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day.
Just like The Infernal Devices is interconnected with The Mortal Instruments, The Last Hours will be interconnected with The Dark Artifices:
The books will interconnect with The Dark Artifices trilogy as two separate trilogies that are also the stories of the Blackthorns, Herondales and Carstairs, much like TMI and The Infernal Devices interconnected despite taking place in different time periods and locations. The exact order of publication isn’t decided yet. Lady Midnight, the first of the Dark Artifices, will certainly be the next Shadowhunter book coming out, and I’ll keep you up to date on the publication order when it’s nailed down.
Here are some characters from The Last Hours illustrated by Cassandra Jean:

Read EW's Interview With Cassandra Clare and an Excerpt from CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE

With the release of the City of Heavenly Fire cover, Entertainment Weekly also released an excerpt from the book plus an exclusive interview with Cassandra Clare.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: First of all, what do you think about the cover?
CASSANDRA CLARE: I really love this cover. Cliff [Nielsen] has done all of my covers since the beginning, and I think he has created a unique look that is specific to the series. We talked back in the beginning about deciding who was going to go on what cover, and that this cover was going to end up with Clary and her brother. This is the big face-off. This is the book where she goes up against her brother Sebastian, and he is the big villain. It’s kind of like a Batman/Joker cover. … And in a way, there’s a play of light and dark going on on the cover, and that sets up a big battle between good and evil with Clary standing for good and Sebastian standing for evil. There’s also little clues for the readers who have been reading the series a long time in the weapons that they’re holding, in the necklace that Clary is wearing, and especially in the landscape that they’re standing on. It gives a hint about what’s coming and what’s going to happen in the book.

New CITY OF HEAVENLY FIRE Snippet from Cassandra Clare's Florence Book Signing

Cassandra Clare recently visited Italy to do some research for her books. While in Italy, she stopped by Florence to attend a book-signing event. At the event, she read a snippet from City of Heavenly Fire:
Not much had changed at Magnus’s since the first time Jace had been there. Jace used an open rune to get through the front door and took the stairs, buzzing Magnus’s apartment bell. It was safer that way because Magnus could be playing video games naked or really anything. Magnus yanked the door open, looking furious. He was wearing a black silk dressing gown, his feet were bare, his dark hair was tangled, “What are you doing here?”
“My,” said Jace, “You’re so unwelcoming.”
“That’s because you’re not welcome.”
“I thought we were friends,” said Jace.
“No, you’re Alec’s friend, Alec was my boyfriend so I had to put up with you. But now he’s not my boyfriend so I don’t have to put up with you.”
“I think you should get back together with Alec,” said Jace.
Magnus looked at him, “And why is that?”
If you would like to watch the event and listen to her read the snippet, check out the video bellow:

Cassandra Clare to Visit CBS on Sunday Morning

This Sunday (August, 18) Cassandra Clare will pay a visit to CBS. Cassandra Clare's interview with Serena Altschul will air at 9:00 am ET on "Good Morning With Charles Osgood" on CBS.
"I think I'm writing for, like, the imaginary me," Clare tells Altschul. "You know, like, I'm writing the book that I would have wanted when I was 17 years old."Clare, whose real name is Judy Rumelt, started writing City of Bones in a tiny Brooklyn closet that served as her bedroom. She worked at the Hollywood Reporter during the day and wrote the novel when she was off. The inspiration for her first book came from walking around New York City after the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks, she tells Altschul.
"It felt like New York was at war," she says. "And I remember thinking... how I kind of wished there was a magical race of people who could protect the city. You know? And I think that was where I got the first idea of maybe I could create a world in which there were these - sort of - Supernatural protectors."

Cassandra Clare Talks About the Controversy in Clary and Jace's Storyline and other 'CITY OF BONES' Movie Questions

MSN UK sits down with Cassandra Clare to talk about random Mortal Instruments questions. They discuss the City of Bones movie process and other stuff like "would you rather be, a Shadowhunter or a downworlder?"
The Clary/Jace storyline in the books is quite controversial – were you worried about how this would translate on screen? Is it controversial? I think the end of the first book is a shocker but certainly by the third or so there's nothing particularly controversial there. Which I think is not unusual in a love story: they usually have obstacles and sometimes the obstacles can skate the edge of taboo because the love needs to be forbidden - there's a teacher/student romance in Divergent and Vampire Academy, Katniss is supposed to kill Peeta, Edward wants to eat Bella - I think by now audiences are pretty used to the idea of an insuperable obstacle to a love story.
Which would you rather be, a Shadow Hunter or an Downworlder?A Downworlder. They can kind of lay low and have somewhat normal lives, in certain cases. I’d last about half a second as a demon-killing soldier! I'd probably want to be a warlock, because then you can live forever without drinking blood. I don't think I'd like blood.
What can fans of the books expect from the movie?I haven’t seen the finished product, but they can expect to see a movie that takes the fictional world we love and makes it real, and gorgeous! The film won’t be exactly the same as the book, because film works very differently as a medium than the written word does, but I think it will be a lot of fun. I also think the actors are perfect for their roles, and that they will really win readers' hearts.

Jamie Campbell Bower and Cassandra Clare Talk About Props on the 'CITY OF BONES' Set

Jamie Campbell Bower and Cassandra Clare
Yahoo Movies attended the London Film and Comic Con 2013 Mortal Instruments panel from July 6th. They have summarized what Cassandra Clare and Jamie Campbell Bower discussed during the panel:
Both Clare and Bower seemed humbled by the experience, with Clare honoured to have been involved in the adaptations process - something which is not commonplace for most authors - and Bower thanking the power of the fans for getting the film made in the first place.
Bower explained that he tries not to focus on the global recognition a film could bring him, focusing instead on stories that mean a lot to him. When asked about his combat training over the years, Bower laughed that for a while he knew how to kill someone with his bare hands but has a brain like a sieve and has since forgotten all his training.
Bower clearly adores his career, saying that he constantly finds it 'shocking that somebody wants to pay me to dress up'. He also confessed to having stolen a few things from the set including a rather important ring. Clare laughed that she had also tried to take the mortal cup but hadn't banked on it being quite so heavy. The cast, they explained, all have their own shadowhunter necklaces - but these were given to them, not taken from the set!
